Know Your Ingredients: Urea

What it is
Urea is a component of urine. However, Urea found in cosmetics is synthetic.

What it does
Urea is a humectant and a skin condition agent. It hydrates skin and is also an exfoliant.
Urea has water-binding properties and, when ingredients are added to a product, also has the ability to minimise changes in the acid and base balance of the product.

Side effects
When used in large quantities, Urea can be irritating and cause inflammation.

prettybeautiful: I know what you mean, but it is. And thank goodness it is synthetic!

Dao: I know, I’m one of those people lol. I still use it cos it is good and that’s what really matters but still I’d rather it had a different name lol.

    Lydia: Exactly my thought lol.

Jnie: thank goodness it is synthetic cos I don’t think many people would use it otherwise. I’ve heard that too but as far as I know thre are no scientific studis to support the claim yet so I’m still a bit sceptical. I guess we’ll have to wait and see..
